FitnessFest 2018 was nothing like other events that we have been to. It was memorable, inspirational, and most of all, it ignited something in us. What seemed like just a festival for fitness junkies to get together turned out to be the start of a brand new fitness journey for some of us. Inspirational talks, fun workouts, and KAYLA ITSINES (how hot can one get??) made the lazy one get off the couch. She started to religiously follow Kayla's Bikini Body Guide (BBG), and never looked back ever since (at least for now). Just like our friend who just started on her fitness journey, the one thing on your mind is probably how to sustain it? Here are 3 tips to help keep you on that fitness journey you just started: 1) Do something you actually enjoy. Let's face it, if you don't like what you're doing, inspiration from others would only get you so far. When it wears off, you'll find yourself giving excuses to not continue that activity. One of us used to do Muay Thai for the sake of losing weight but did not completely enjoy the sessions - travelling to the gym was a pain, getting hit in the face was another level of pain. That being said, nobody really knows what they truly like until they have tried enough. So get out there, try new workouts, maybe you'll fall in love with something! 2) Remind yourself why you started the fitness journey, and what you're working towards. Whether it is to lose the weight you piled on because of a sedentary office life, or to have that washboard abs, or to qualify for an iron man race, it's not going to happen in a day, a week, nor a month. There will be days that you feel like you are hitting a plateau, and your decisions then will determine if you can succeed. It really helps to have encouraging buddies who are also embarking on this journey with you so that they can remind you why you started this. 3) Maintain a balanced lifestyle What if you want to eat your fried chicken? Does that negate whatever exercise that you've been doing? Well, it probably sets you back a little but we are always an advocate of leading a balanced lifestyle because extremities are not for everyone. Simply put, if you deprive yourself of things that you love, you'll be miserable and eventually you'll give up on that fitness journey. So, go have that fried chicken if you wish, but do it in moderation! For every cheat day you have, make it up by working harder. What if you are drowning at work and cannot seem to find time? We've all been there but eventually we realised that breaking out of the busy schedule to exercise actually makes one more productive. It creates endorphins that make us happy, and also helps to clear our head. There are 24 hours in a day, a 30mins workout that only takes up 2% of your day can make a world of a difference. Last but not least, very unfortunately, exercising alone isn't enough. Diet is just as important and Chufas are our buddies when we crave for something sweet but still want to eat clean. Sprinkle some powder on the Greek yoghurt and it becomes a wonderful alternative to ice cream.
With love, Chufala
